Postdoctoral Scientist in Thalamocortical Interactions in Primate Cognition (2 posts)
Department of Experimental Psychology, Oxford
Grade 7: £31,076 – £38,183 p.a.
We are seeking two highly motivated postdoctoral scientists to develop and perform experiments investigating cognitive functions (e.g. learning, memory, decision-making) involving cortico- thalamo-cortical interactions in non-human primates using electrophysiological recording studies, drug infusions, lesions, and functional MRI scanning. The project is led by Dr Anna Mitchell and is funded by the Wellcome Trust for 3 years.
The start date is relatively flexible but the successful candidate must start the position by January 2018 at the latest.
Working with Dr Mitchell, firstname.lastname@example.org you will develop cutting edge non-human primate experiments related to cognitive functions, in particular learning, memory and adaptive decision making; and will support on-going experiments and the analysis of existing datasets. The successful postholder will be expected to work with limited supervision and must keep up-to-date with latest developments and innovation in the field.
The post is ideally suited to applicants who have recently completed (or are about to complete) a PhD in neuroscience or a related field.
As well as prior experience and knowledge of neurophysiology recordings in animals and a strong interest in working closely with non-human primates, you will have excellent oral and written communication skills, and basic understanding of neuroscience, primate neuroanatomy and primate vision, and programming, in particular Matlab. Responsibilities also include assisting with the development and implementation of scientific programme of work including responsibility for the organisational processes needed to advance this research work, preparing scientific reports for journal publication and presenting scientific work at seminars within the department and at external meetings.
You will be required to upload a covering letter explaining how you meet the job requirements, as well as a CV and details of two referees as part of your online application.
