Choice reaction time is the time between a stimulus given in a certain position and reaction of the corresponding effector. Caffeine, a drug contained in a variety of daily food, is known to increase euphoria, excitability and motor ability and decrease feeling of fatigue. However, there is only a few studies that examine the effect of caffeine on spatial cognition using choice reaction time task under violation of spatial cognition, that is, under which subjects were required to use contralateral hand to the side of stimulus to respond, or, the subjects' hands were crossed so that ipsilateral hand to the side of stimulus was placed on the contralateral side with respect to the body center. Further, there are few studies that examined the choice reaction time with three different types of stimuli in within-subject design. Here we examine the effect of caffeine administration with three different concentrations on reaction time and success rate especially related to spatial cognition using choice reaction time task with visual, auditory or tactile stimuli. Our results related to caffeine administration and spatial cognition indicated that the increase of caffeine concentration did not improve the reaction time related to spatial cognition although caffeine improved subjects' reaction time itself. However, the increase of caffeine concentration improved the success rates related to spatial cognition. These results might indicate that caffeine improves subjects' accurate spatial judgment but not rapid spatial judgment.
