Notice and Apology Concerning Possible Leakage of Personal Information
Dear members of the Japan Neuroscience Society,
(Those whose Admission Date is before September 11, 2024)
We have learned that one of the computers of the society’s office was temporarily and illegally accessed by a third party.
At this time, we have no proof that the personal information of our society’s members has been leaked, but we cannot completely rule out the possibility of a leak.
Personal information that might has been leaked:
Full Name, Affiliation Name, Postal Address (e.g. of office or home), Phone Number, E-mail Address, Birthday, Gender
Personal information that might has been leaked does NOT include credit card number, bank account information, payment history of annual membership fees, or other information related to financial transactions, nor login password to the members-only website.
Current Response Status:
Although no reports of damage have been received at this time, we are promptly conducting an investigation, consulting with specialized agencies, and taking thorough information security measures.
Requests for Members:
In the unlikely event that you receive a suspicious e-mail or phone call claiming to be from the Japan Neuroscience Society, we would appreciate it if you would contact the society’s office without responding.
Future actions and apologies:
We sincerely apologize for any concern and inconvenience this may cause you. To prevent recurrence, we will further strengthen security and strive to protect your personal information.

Installation of security software, Changing passwords for society’s e-mail accounts and various services used on the websites
Matters to be addressed:
Participation in security training for society’s secretariat staff, and etc.
