Announcement of 2026 JNS-SfN Exchange Travel Awardees
August 20, 2026
The Call for Application of 2026 JNS-SfN Exchange Travel Award—a joint initiative between the Japan Neuroscience Society (JNS) and the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) that sponsors JNS members to attend the SfN annual meeting— was open from Monday, May 11 to Wednesday, June 10. We received a large number of outstanding applications, making the selection process exceptionally competitive. Following a rigorous review by the International Collaboration Affairs Committe (members listed below), the following five individuals have been selected as this year's Travel Award recipients:
| (in alphabetical order) |
| Haruka Kawamura |
Department of Systems Physiology, Shiga University of Medical Science |
| Ziguo Lan |
Department of Frontier and International Psychiatry, Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine |
| Chihiro Maeda |
Graduate students, Degree program in Life and Earth Science, University of Tsukuba |
| Hiroyuki Mizuno |
Laboratory of Chemical Pharmacology, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, The University of Tokyo |
| Shinnosuke Nomura |
Graduate School of Medicine and Faculty of Medicine, The University of Tokyo |
Selected recipients will represent the Japan Neuroscience Society at the SfN annual meeting. In addition to presenting during the main sessions, they will participate in official SfN events, including the International Fellows Orientation Session and the Early Career Poster Session. The evaluation process followed a strict protocol to avoid conflicts of interest, comprehensively assessing applicants based on the quality of their submitted abstract, essay letter, and overall academic track record. While this initiative originally launched in 2012 to provide travel support for researchers affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, the high volume of applicants today—along with the program's role as an official society "award"—means that selections were made based strictly on research excellence.
